It is hard to enjoy your pinot noir or any of your favorites when drinking them out of a cloudy wine glass, or a fluted riddled with unsightly water marks. You should know how to care for your wine glasses; to clean them and have them sparkling even when picked from storage.

Start With Some Stemware Basics

You need to be aware of the following fundamentals when cleaning your wine glasses.

• Never use scented dish soap – You should stick to the unscented dishwashing liquid. Ensure it is mild and does not leave any traces that can alter the smell and taste of your wine.

• Rinse if sitting overnight — You may feel too lazy to wash the glasses after your dinner guests leave; it is understandable. So, you can resort to dipping the wine glasses in water overnight and then pick them and rinse them in running water. It will lower the chances of stains or discolorations.

• Do not put glasses in the dishwasher — Your stemware should never see the inside of a dishwasher, whether it is made from glass or crystal. The water jets the dishwasher generates can break the stems. Moreover, the dishwashing detergent may have particles that may be etched to the wine glasses.

• Use gentle cleaning tools — To avoid scratching your glasses when cleaning them, you should replace those brushes, scouring pads, and scrubby sponges with a soft microfiber cloth.

• Wipe the glasses dry — If you do not want to see water spots and streaks on your stemware, then never let your wine glasses drip dry. You should use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe them inside and out, leaving them sparkling.

Quick Tip: To avoid damaging your wine glasses, you should wash one piece at a time. Make sure that they do not bump into each other to keep them for chipping, cracking, or shattering.

What You Will Need:

– A clean wash basin

– Mild, unscented dishwashing liquid

– Soft, clean, microfiber cloths

– A plastic cup

The Cleaning Process:

1) You will fill the basin with hot water, but make sure it is not too hot that it causes your wine glasses to crack.

2) Add a tiny amount of dishwashing liquid (one drop is sufficient) to the bowl of the glass.

3) Dip your cup into the basin with the hot water, which should be warm and then scoop the water to add to the wine glass bowl.

4) While holding the glass securely, wipe the inside of the bowl using the microfiber cloth moving up and outwards to the rim.

5) After that, pour out the soapy water and then rinse the wine glass under an open tap until the water runs clear.

6) Use a fresh, dry microfiber cloth to wipe dry the wine glass.

7) Use this process for all the wine glasses.

Cleaning Cloudy Wine Glasses with Vinegar

For this you will need the following items:

– A large basin or bowl (tall enough to submerge a wine glass)

– Mild, unscented dishwashing liquid

– Soft, clean, microfiber cloths

– A plastic cup

– 3 cups warm water

– A cup distilled white vinegar

The Cleaning Process:

1). You will have to place a soft towel at the bottom of the basin or bowl before filling it with the three cups of warm water and a cup of distilled white vinegar.

2). Place the wine glass inside the bowl and let it sit for around ten minutes.

3). You will then pick it up after that and gently wipe it using a clean microfiber cloth. Use another microfiber cloth to wipe the wine glass dry to make it sparkle.

4). Repeat this process until you have cleaned all the wine glasses.
