There are a number of good reasons why you might want to make your own cleaning products from home. Whether you want to avoid having to go to the store, would like to save some money, or are wanting to create a chemical-free environment inside of your home, there really isn’t any reason why you shouldn’t take the DIY route considering how easy it is. A majority of homemade cleaning products are made using ingredients that are probably in your pantry already. Check out the recipes below.

All-Purpose Cleaner

1/4 cup lemon juice
1 cup hydrogen peroxide
2 cups of water

Mix together all of the ingredients and then use it to clean everything from counters to glass. Be sure that this cleaner is store inside of a dark container so that the hydrogen peroxide does not deteriorate.

Homemade Laundry Detergent

This recipe makes around 2.5 cups with is the equivalent of 20 loads of laundry in a standard washing machine

1/2 cup vinegar
4 cups of water
1 cup of Eco Nuts soap nuts

Put all of the ingredients in a big pot and then bring it up to a low boil. Then lower the heat down to medium-low and let it simmer while covered, for around 30 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to mash the nuts and stir occasionally.

Uncover and allow the mixture to simmer on low for an additional 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Take off of the heat and then strain the mix into a clean bowl. Allow it to cool.

For short-term storage store inside of a watertight jar, or for long-term storage, freeze it in ice cube trays.

To Use:

For each load of laundry, add 2 tablespoons to a standard washing machine or 1 tablespoon to a machine.

Homemade Liquid Dish Soap

1 teaspoon vinegar
4 drops of your choice of essential oil
1/8 cup of water
12 cup of liquid castile soap

Mix together all of the ingredients and then store inside of an old soap bottle you have on hand.

Non-Toxic Disinfectant

30 drops of tea tree oil
3 tablespoons of liquid castile soap
2 cups of water

Mix together all of the ingredients and then store inside of a spray bottle for future use.

Homemade Air-Freshener

1/2 teaspoon of lemon essential oil
1 teaspoon of sweet orange essential oil
3/4 teaspoon of lavender essential oil

Add water to a spray bottle and then mix the essential oils in. Blend thoroughly by shaking the bottle, and then again before you use it.
