If you cook or eat at home, you will probably own a dishwasher to make your life a bit easier.  Most of the items in your kitchen can be placed in the dishwasher after you have used them, but there is some cookware that you need to leave out.  The problem is that a lot of people do not know if something can go into the dishwasher if there is no print or sticker to tell them about this. It is important that you know what can and cannot be put into your dishwasher to avoid damaging your kitchen items.

Can Copper Pots Be Put Into The Dishwasher?

You should not do this if you want the pots to last.  Copper is very popular for cookware because of its ability to conduct heat.  The warm hues of the pots will also add to their appeal. However, the problem with placing these pots into the dishwasher is that you risk not only dulling the shine, but also shortening their lifespan.

Can Stainless Steel Be Put Into The Dishwasher?

There is a bit of debate regarding stainless steel.  There are some items such as your stainless steel mixing bowls and utensils that can be put into the machine without too many issues.  However, there are other stainless steel items that should be washed by hand.

This will include your cookware such as pots and pans.  As there is no consensus on the safety of your stainless steel in the dishwasher, you might want to rule out all risks and wash everything by hand.

Can A Cast Iron Skillet Be Put Into The Dishwasher?

The answer to this question is a loud and resounding no.  There are even some people who feel that if you attempt to place a cast iron skillet into this machine, you should not be allowed to own one.  The primary reason for this is the fact that they are prone to rust. Additionally, cast iron is seasoned and there are some special rules that you need to follow when cleaning and cooking with these skillets.

What Other Items Should Not Be Put Into The Dishwasher?

There are actually a lot of other items that you should not be putting into your dishwasher and you need to know what they are.  Many of these items are common in the kitchen and will need to be washed by hand. Of course, no list of items will be completely comprehensive and if you are unsure about whether something can go into the dishwasher, you should wash it by hand instead.

Some of the items that you should wash by hand include any aluminum items and enameled cast iron.  Crystal, fancy china, expensive glasses, family heirlooms, and gold-plated dishes should also be left out of the dishwasher.  Insulated mugs, steak knives, non-stick bakeware and cookware along with plastic containers should also be washed by hand.

The only time plastic can be placed in the machine is when the manufacturer specifies that it is safe to do so.  Wooden utensils should also be washed by hand along with knives that have wooden handles.
